1. Harvesting: ginger harvesting is different from other vegetables. It can be divided into three methods: tender ginger harvesting, old ginger harvesting and seed ginger harvesting.
(1) Harvest tender ginger, which can be used as fresh vegetables to supply the market in advance. Harvest is generally started in early August. The early picked ginger has fresh and tender meat, light spicy taste, high water content and is not resistant to storage. It should be used as pickle or bad pepper seasoning. It tastes delicious, is very popular in the market and has good economic benefits.
(2) Ginger is usually harvested from mid to late October to November. When the aboveground plants of ginger begin to wither and yellow, and the rhizomes are fully expanded and mature, they shall be harvested. At this time, the harvested ginger has high yield, heavy spicy taste, and is resistant to storage and transportation. As seasoning or processing, the quality of dried ginger slices is good. However, harvesting must be completed before frost to prevent freezing and decay. The harvest should be completed in sunny days, the plants should be cut off uniformly, and then the ginger blocks should be dug to minimize the damage.
(3) Generally, the harvesting of ginger is carried out in the middle and late June when the aboveground plant has 4 ~ 5 leaves. When harvesting, carefully remove the soil in the rhizosphere of the plant, take out the seed ginger, and then cover the soil to cover the root. If the harvest is too late, the root weight will affect the plant growth.
2. Seed retention: for the ginger block for seed retention, it is better to set up another seed retention field for cultivation. During the growth period, apply more potassium fertilizer (grass and wood ash, etc.) and less nitrogen fertilizer (such as urea, etc.). When harvesting, the seeds were dried for several days to reduce the moisture of seed blocks for storage. In field production, ginger blocks with strong plants, full ginger blocks, no infection of diseases and insect pests and no damage can also be selected for drying and storage for seed.
Pest control
There are few diseases and insect pests in ginger, mainly ginger rot (ginger blast). The onset time is mostly around the beginning of autumn, especially in the case of many showers and low-lying ponding, which is most likely to cause the spread of the disease. In the early stage of the disease, the tip of the plant leaves began to wither, and then turned yellow along the leaf vein. After a few days, the whole plant stem and leaves became yellowish brown and gradually withered, and died in pieces in severe cases. Ginger began to come on, with water soaked yellow spots, which gradually softened and rotted, giving off a foul smell.
